This rack rips robust roads rolling right-on. Don't be square, be there. No regrets with this thing. Bombproof taking wash-board roads in my Crosstrek. Loading and unloading is cake. Securing your steed with a trusty cable lock attached to this rascal makes stops a lot more less tense. Locking the rack to the hitch is also on the big plusser side. Don't you fall into the trap, other racks are full of crap. Just get on it already.

Assembly nightmare, low quality parts

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This thing is a nightmare to put together. The illustrations are inadequate, the tolerances between holes are all off, and the coating of the bolt threads is so thick you have no idea if it's aligned as you screw it in. Don't even think about buying the 2-bike add-on as a thing you'll take on and off as needed. I returned mine after realizing what a pain that would be. The key difficulty is connecting this little screw on the activating handle to an internal shaft that controls the rack's up and down motion. You have to do it blindly, and it doesn't look strong. Every time you actuate the handle it feels like it's straining, not solid- like it'll eventually break. The plastic teeth on the rear tire ratchet are poor quality- they deformed after just once use! You'll quickly learn a little trick to save them.... but for $620 I'm not interested in hacking my 2-bike rack. Snowboard bindings eliminated this problem 10 years ago.... seems Thule hasn't caught up. And the keys for the lock cores are totally blank... so you'll have to paint them with nail polish or something to differentiate from other cores you might have. That said once it's set up it holds the bikes ok. I took mine cross country and had no issues. The hitch interface is nice, and the lock cores are functional. I'm keeping mine because it's set up and I don't want to deal with it again on a competitor's product that may not even be any better. However if I did, I'd probably get the Kuat... it seems slightly better,

Love it til your bike falls off

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I liked this rack, but last night had a bike fall off and get dragged when driving down a windy mountain road. Bike damaged and could have caused a messy accident. The stabilizing brace swung open while I was taking what were reasonably sharp turns (I drive a Subaru for the record, so no I was not up on two wheels on those turns). I never loved the design of the stabilizing brace, and this is definitely a rack that prioritizes ease of mounting over bomber security, but I figured Thule engineers had done their homework to make sure that G-forces of driving couldn't do this. They make an obvious trade off with the stabilizing arm toward ease of use, given that a one-way ratchet as it moves to vertical with an unlocking feature would solidly prevent this. Owner's manual, which I reviewed when I got home, is silent on what I now think are major concerns - like whether the brace needs to be locked at something less than 90 degrees on a large diameter wheel for it to be properly secure. I'm not even certain whether this is doable on some bikes (the one that fell last night had relatively small wheels). The brace itself lacks any kind of positive indicator that it's locking or secure - no discernible ratchet noise as the j-hook closes and nothing to flag whether the j-hook release is jammed in the unlocked position, for example. A bike will naturally bounce against that hook as you drive. In fact, given that this is a home assembly job and I've seen numerous sites calling out manufacturing flaws, Thule should give owners some way of telling that the thing is properly functioning when assembled. It's basically just friction that keeps the stabilizing arm in place. I'm actually assuming here that it functioned as designed. I now have a banged up bike and am pretty freaked that this will happen again. No one is putting cheap bikes on rack this expensive, and Thule needs to get this right.

Intuitive & Sturdy

Familiarity:

Amazing bike rack. I have used it 4 times carrying two bikes and have no complaints. It was extremely easy and quick to assemble. I have a 2in hitch and have experienced no wobbles when bikes are loaded, even on the highway.

Plastic will not last

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Ease of use very good, but after 2 yrs. 3 plastic parts have broken. One of the plastic struts holding wheel tray, one of the screws holding wheel hook stripped, and worst the handle for folding rack up was destroyed when some one hit it while parked at trailhead. The problem is Thule will not provide repair parts for this handle, which is vulnerable to careless driving. They offered a new rack at half price $300, not what I expected. Handle probably $10 part. I vote with my feet, never Thule again. You should know that plastic for stressed parts is not a good choice. Stay away. I have no idea why this rack is so highly rated outside of its ease of use.

Solid, Secure, Super Easy to Use

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Great rack...easy setup...quick on and off of vehicle, secures bikes solidly, no rattling. It's not light, but why should it be when your expensive ride is on the line? Great for post-ride hose-off too. Just leave the bikes on the rack and wash away.

Bomb Proof

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I?ve had a few different styles that I bought because they were ?cheaper?. I always hated how those cheaper ones would have play on the road or had cheap components or would rub the bikes against each other on the ride. This thing is expensive but is solid and protects my investment much better than all the other systems I?ve had. Only gripe would be how heavy it is but that?s what it takes to build a tank and not a sled.

Frustrating Quality Control

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm sure the rack will suit my needs nicely. I'm just frustrated that it took a trip to the hardware store with one of the trays over my shoulder to put it together. It was missing the 8 screws and 8 washers that hold the trays to the rack.
